چکیده

The commercialization of gold for acetylene hydrochlorination represents a major scientific landmark. development second-generation catalysts continues with focus on derivatives and drop-in replacements higher activity stability. Here, we show the influence that support surface oxygen has carbon supported catalysts. Variation in content is achieved through careful modification Hummers chemical oxidation method prior to deposition gold. All oxidized carbon-based resulted marked increase at 200 °C when compared standard nontreated carbon, an optimum ca. 18 % being observed. Increasing relative concentration C–O functionality yields light-off temperatures 30–50 below catalyst. This understanding opens promising avenue produce high can operate lower temperatures.

Identification of single-site gold catalysis in acetylene hydrochlorination.

There remains considerable debate over the active form of gold under operating conditions of a recently validated gold catalyst for acetylene hydrochlorination. We have performed an in situ x-ray absorption fine structure study of gold/carbon (Au/C) catalysts under acetylene hydrochlorination reaction conditions and show that highly active catalysts comprise single-site cationic Au entities who...

Characterization of Au species in Au/C catalysts for the hydrochlorination reaction of acetylene

A set of Au/C catalysts for the gas phase hydrochlorination of acetylene to vinyl chloride monomer were prepared using a range of strong acids as impregnating solvents and varying the preparation drying temperature. The most active catalyst is the material prepared using aqua regia as solvent with an intermediate drying temperature of 140 C. The effects of the catalyst preparation parameters on...

Modifications of the metal and support during the deactivation and regeneration of Au/C catalysts for the hydrochlorination of acetylene

The effect of gold oxidation state and carbon structure on the activity of Au/C catalyst for the hydrochlorination of acetylene was investigated by a combined approach using TPR, XPS and porosimetry determinations. The activity of the catalyst in the synthesis of vinyl chloride monomer was found to be dependent from the presence of Au 3+ species into the catalyst. However, by preparing catalyst...

Novel Mesoporous Carbon Supports for PEMFC Catalysts

Over the past decade; a significant amount of research has been performed on novel carbon supports for use in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Specifically, carbon nanotubes, ordered mesoporous carbon, and colloid imprinted carbons have shown great promise for improving the activity and/or stability of Pt-based nanoparticle catalysts. In this work, a brief overview of these materia...
